I was lucky enough to attend the Creative Careers Festival at the University of Lincoln this week, which aims to support those looking to start their careers in creative industries. It involved events for six of the schools in the university including English and Journalism, Fine and Performing Arts, Architecture, Design, Media and Heritage.
I managed to take advantage of a one to one mentoring session with Kate Strawson, Director at Shooting Star PR who gave me some really great advice about starting in the industry and was nice enough to look over my CV and give me some tips!
I then went to a session led by Student Life about making and maintaining online portfolios which was really interesting and made me aware of a number of other platforms that I hadn’t previously encountered and I got to play around with.
I think it’s really important that the university is helping students who may need to use unfamiliar methods of job hunting or standing out. It can be a scary thing coming towards the end of your study, but it is great to have support!
